Compact, perennial shrub, 0.2-0.8 m high, leaves ovate-obovate, grey-green, 5-45 mm long, 3-20 mm wide; spikes green-white to pink or yellow ovoid-cylindrical or orbicular, 5-22 mm long, 7-18 mm wide; bract 2-3.4 mm long; bracteoles 2.5-4 mm long; tepals 4-7.6 mm long; 5 fertile stamens; ovary glabrous; style straight, 1.7-3 mm long, centrally fixed to ovary. Fl. green-white/yellow-red/purple, Mar to May or Jul to Oct.
