Habit and structure. Thallus clavate, to 3.5 cm in height, calcified, dark green near apex but gradually becoming calcified and chalky below; structure uniaxial, with whorls of lateral branches along entire length, 28–40 branches per whorl; primary branches up to 575 µm long; secondary branches about 400 µm long, their dilated apices about 200 µm in diameter, giving rise terminally to deciduous hairs in terminal portion of plant.

 

Reproduction. Gametangia spherical, free, pedicellate, 70–100 µm in diameter, each bearing a single, spherical cyst; when viewed externally, gametangia giving appearance of a layer of discrete white beads.

 

Distribution. Tropical Indo-Pacific.

 

Habitat. Generally occurs in small clusters on rocks in the intertidal and shallow subtidal.
