Habit and structure. Thallus (gametophyte) light brown to olive, partially prostrate but with unattached margins, 4-8 cm in length, membranous (to 250-300 µm thick), flabellate with occasional splitting at the margins. Marginal meristem trichothallic, with simple filaments 0.3-3.0 mm long, 17-25 µm diam. Concentric hair bands 2-3 mm apart in mature regions of thallus. Structure with medulla of 3-4 layers of hyaline cells, 150-200 x 120-150 µm, bordered by a single layer of pigmented cortical cells, 20-25 x 15-25 µm.
Reproduction. Female gametangia 55-80 x 15-25 µm, borne on hairs in concentric bands on the thallus surface. Male gametangia and sporophyte unknown

Distribution. Known from Ningaloo Reef, the Houtman Abrolhos Is. and Rottnest I., W. Aust.
Habitat. Epilithic in the shallow subtidal.
