Erect, non-lignotuberous shrub, 1.2-4.5 m high. Fl. red, Aug to Sep. Loamy or clayey sand. Sandplains, flats, roadsides. Distribution: Eremaean and South-west. CAR and YAL. GS and SWA.

Habit and leaf form. Shrubs, 1.5–4.5 m high. Leaves alternate, leaves 90–190(–200) mm long overall. Leaf blade 90–190(–200) mm long, 1–3 mm wide, undissected, linear, flat; margins entire; indumentum absent.
Inflorescence and floral features. Inflorescence axillary, racemose. Flowers pedicellate, red. Pedicel 2–3 mm long. Perianth (perigone) 4–6 mm long. Pistil 17–22 mm long. Pollen presenter simple.

Fruit and seed features. Fruit 17–25 mm long, 10–15 mm wide; corky tetrahedral projections absent; red-brown and pale wood zones absent. Seed 15–20 mm long; 7–10 mm wide; wing discontinuous, marginal, extending down one lateral side only.
Distribution. Western Australia. IBRA Bioregions ER: CAR.
Habitat. Amongst medium trees, or low trees (mallee scrubland, Acacia shrubland); in sand (clayey sand, loamy sand).
Flowering Time. May to October.
Etymology. Bucculenta (L.): bucculentus – full-cheeked; refering to the shape of the fruit in this species.
