Cormous, perennial, herb, 0.1-0.4 m high. Fl. cream & white & yellow & purple, Jul to Oct. Grey-white sand, lateritic soils or sandy clay. Amongst grasses in woodland or in disturbed areas. Distribution: South-west. AW, ESP, GS, JF, MAL, SWA and WAR.

General Biology. Growth form. Geophyte. Life form. Annually renewed corm. Reproduction. Primarily seed, occasionally offsets/stem-cormels. Dispersal. Water, soil, birds. Time to first flowering. 2-3 years. Seedbank persistence. Short, days-1 year. Fire response. Generally survives fire.

Notes. Naturalised in the Juan Fernandez Islands, Chile.

Additional information. Origin. South Africa. History of use/introduction. Garden escape.

Suggested method of management and control. Spot spray metsulfuron methyl 0.2 g/15 L + Pulse® or 2.5-5 g/ha + Pulse®. Apply just on flowering at corm exhaustion. Read the manufacturers' labels and material safety data sheets before using herbicides.
