The Western Australian Herbarium and Library will be moving to new premises at the WA Conservation Science Centre in early 2011. The Herbarium’s operations will be disrupted until at least the end of 2011. Most of the regular Herbarium services have now closed to allow staff to focus completely on preparations for the move. These include the following:
Our Census of WA Plant Names will not be edited during the disruption period. This will mean that no result is returned for newly-discovered plants and that related content, such as distribution maps, plant photographs and identification keys will retain older names until database maintenance recommences. An exception to this is that conservation status will continue to be maintained.
Our WAHerb specimen database will not be edited during the disruption period. This will mean that no result is returned for specimens we have not databased and older data is returned for those specimens that have not been updated. Additionally, related content that relies on the specimen database may become outdated, such as distribution maps, plant photographs and identification keys.
Our Library databases are in the process of being merged and the database displayed in FloraBase is not being edited. This will mean that no result is returned for newer titles that exist in the physical library, or that have been moved as a result of the merging process.
FloraBase feedback forms will not be processed during the disruption period, as most of these deal with name and specimen changes and would thus not occur anyway.
If you require further information please don’t hesitate to contact the Collections Manager, Karina Knight for further information about the Herbarium and Alex Chapman about FloraBase.
